Rose & Co. History
When you open the doors of Rose & Co in Haworth, West Yorkshire, you step back in time to an old apothecary shop, warmly lit by glass globes, fragranced with exotic oils and botanical essences, and packed from floor to ceiling with glass fronted mahogany cabinets. It is fitted out in a style that would make an Edwardian feel instantly at home, with large chemist's bottles filled with brightly-coloured liquids, wooden counters, old fashioned metal cash registers and boxes and jars of home made lotions, potions and remedies piled high from floor to ceiling.
Since the Haworth shop was opened in 1987 by mother and daughter team Patricia and Caroline Rose, a second shop in the Victoria Quarter in Leeds has opened. Both shops evoke a feeling of entering a turn of the century dispensary -- a haven of rare and hard to find old-world remedies and cosmetics, many of which are still made to original formulations on the premises.
Caroline Rose is a practicing aromatherapist and develops all of the product formulations herself. Caroline hand-picks all of her UK-made ingredients and professionally blended essential oils to soothe and relax, develops skin creams to revitalise, creates wholesome handmade soaps, ointments, balms and salves for every health and beauty remedy.
